Simple Saving – The Zen Way

06.27.10

When you’re living the zen life, saving money should be a priority. Likely you are not out there spending on tons of commercial items, but a simple saving system is always in order.

There are several simple ways you can choose to save.

  • Envelopes – Some people like to divide their money into budget envelopes.  Each envelope has enough money in it for each budget item for the week or month.  Examples could be : eating out, bills, movies, etc.  After you have put the correct amount of money in each envelope, everything else goes in the bank to be saved.  When you are out of money in your envelope, you are done spending for that category.
  • Roll over savings account.-  Some banks, such as Bank of America, offer to round up each purchase that you make with your debit card and put the extra cents into a savings account.  This is a great way to accumulate a little extra cash each month.  It also makes balancing your checking account really easy!
  • The money jar. – Throw all of your spare change into a jar at the end of the day.  Let all family members participate.  Then when the jar is full, go to the nearest coin star and exchange it for dollars.  Let the family vote on what to do with the extra money.

As you can see, simple saving has never been easier.  Keep it up and you will have the money for a nice little zen retreat in no time!
